of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions
Dear colleagues, friends!
Let me congratulate You on the 10th anniversary of our Association.
On July 12, 2010, the final meeting of the heads of the constitutional control bodies of Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Thailand, Uzbekistan and the Philippines was held in Jakarta. As a result, the Declaration on the establishment of the Association of Asian constitutional courts and equivalent institutions and its Statute were adopted.
Over these years, it has emerged as an authoritative regional organization that joins the efforts of its members in the protection of human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The number of members of the Association has doubled, three Congresses have been held, and structural divisions in Indonesia, Korea and Turkey have been established and are working effectively. Cooperation with the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and other associations is intensifying. The Association's resources also serve to strengthen relations between the constitutional justice bodies of the participating states.
All these achievements were made possible by our friendship and constructive interaction.
At present the whole world is going through a difficult period due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More than ever, we feel the need to join forces in the fight against this evil.
Despite these problems, the Association has great prospects ahead of it.
We continue to prepare for the IV Congress of the Association. It is expected that new members will join, that a Memorandum of understanding will be signed with other organizations, and that the organizational and legal framework of our structure will be improved.
I am confident that we will continue to work together to effectively meet the common challenges.
I wish the Association and its members new victories, increase of the potential and prosperity.
President of the Association Kairat Mami
